Oasis in this months Q issue

Welcome to Argentina. Your companions will ensure that you spend the next two days being sworn at, drunk under the table and having their fingers stuck up your nose.

    (Interview outtake )

Q: So you still hate everyone, then?

Liam: "No, not at all. People say that all the time, that I hate everybody, but it's not true. I like Kasabian, in fact I love Kasabian. I like Kings Of Leon, and I like that Artic Monkeys are ordinary Northern boys and not ponces like Kaiser Chiefs and Franz fucking Ferdinand. Look at what those monkeys wear. Probably takes them hours-hours-to get ready to go onstage. Artic Monkeys? I reckon it takes them 10 minutes and I respect that.

Q: But yourself are something of a clotheshorse yourself these days, aren't you?

Liam: Fuck off, I'm wearing shorts now, aren't I?

Q: True, but onstage, you look like somthing out of a Milan fashion show.

The sunglasses are lowered and the mad eyes come blazing over the top:

Liam: You trying to be funny? It's still only a jacket, trousers, shoes. I don't wear blazers and I don't wear ties.

Q: You do wear scarves though.

Liam: Listen, soft lad. There's a world of difference between a tie and a scarf, right? I'm nothing like those c#nts....

Oasis stars attend Arctic Monkeys show at Brixton Academy

Arctic Monkeys were joined onstage by actor Steve Graham tonight (April 27) as they brought their two week jaunt of the UK to a dramatic close.

Halfway through 'When The Sun Goes Down', Graham who plays the 'Scummy Man' in the film inspired by the band's number one hit, grabbed Alex Turner's mic and shouted: "These boys are fucking fantastic. We've not had anything like this since The Clash. I'm the fucking scummy man."

He eventually returned to the stage towards the end of the track and wrapped his arm around Turner who couldn't help but giggle the words: "What a scummy man/Give him half a chance I'll bet he'll rob yer if he can."

It was an eventful night for the Sheffield four-piece who also found their Brixton Academy show invaded by longtime Monkeys associate The Reverend and his band The Makers during 'A Certain Romance'.

Throughout their 60 minute set, which was watched by Oasis stars Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer, the band played the title track from their newly released EP 'Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys?', 'Cigarette Smoker Fiona' and the unreleased 'Leave Before The Lights Come On', a song which Turner assured the crowd they'd "love in a couple of months."

As ever the Monkeys sparked mass singalongs during 'Fake Tales Of San Francisco', 'Mardy Bum' and their number one hits 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' and 'When The Sun Goes Down'.

Acknowledging that the gig was the band's last in Britain for some time, Turner thanked the crowd at the end and added: "We're not gonna be playing in the UK for a while cos we'll be heading off overseas. We'll be back for the festivals though and I hope to see you there. I won't know if you're there but you'll know we're there. It has been a pleasure."

    Arctic Monkeys played:

    'Riot Van'
    'The View From The Afternoon'
    'Cigarette Smoker Fiona'
'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight At Me'
    'Mardy Bum'
    'Still Take You Home'
'Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys?'
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'
'Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But...'
    'Dancing Shoes'
'Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured'
'Leave Before The Lights Come On'
    'When The Sun Goes Down'
    'Fake Tales Of San Francisco'
'From The Ritz To The Rubble'
    'A Certain Romance'

Additional support came from The Little Flames.

    Noel supports his Monkeys

ARCTIC MONKEYS descended on London for their biggest show to date and elder statesman NOEL GALLAGHER was there in his new role as their showbiz godfather.

The OASIS songwriter mingled with hundreds of fans to watch the incredible performance at Londons Brixton Academy on Thursday night.

Shunning the VIP bar, Noel and girlfriend SARA MacDONALD queued at the heaving bar for their own drinks without a minder in sight.

After the gig, the singer went backstage where he hugged ALEX TURNER and chatted to the Sheffield band for two hours.

He told me: You got to love the kids.

It was the Monkeys best show for a long time.

      Shack....CD Review

Shack On The Corner Of Miles And Gil (Sour Mash)

A beautiful, epic concoction of folk and acoustic from Liverpool's answer to Belle And Sebastian.

Formed back in the Eighties, Shack have battled against the odds ever since, never enjoying chart success but have quietly gathered a legion of fans anyway.

Now signed to Noel Gallagher's boutique label, Sour Mash, they've found a home where they can release music they want without pressure to be fashionable or million sellers.

On The Corner Of Miles And Gil carries on from where Here's Tom With The Weather left off a couple of years ago big soothing melodies mixing both traditional and experimental songwriting.

Stand-out tracks Tie Me Down and Finn, Sophie, Bobby and Lance show this off best, but overall it's a fantastic release which could well bring Shack more exposure.

    Released May 15, 2006.

We'll be around for a bit

Noel Gallagher claims Oasis will be around as long as frontman Liam still has his good looks.

The rocker says the band will call it a day as soon as his younger brother - who has shifted his excess pounds after going on a major health kick in recent months - starts looking too old.

He quipped: "As long as Liam looks good we'll be around for a bit. So when he hits 40, that's when we'll start having problems.

"Luckily, we're blessed with great hair - we're still hanging in there."

      Alan McGee at CinemagicMusic festival

Belfast-bound... man who made Oasis and Pete Doherty into stars

The man credited with discovering rock legends Oasis will be in Belfast in June to share his knowledge of music with young people as part of a new festival.

Alan McGee, who also managed The Libertines and set up Creation Records and Poptones, will be in the hot seat for a Questions and Answers session during the CinemagicMusic festival.

The event was launched this week and is aimed at young people in Northern Ireland who hope to work within the music industry.

CinemagicMusic follows on from the hugely successful Cinemagic World Screen Festival, which educates teenagers interested in pursuing a career in film and television.

A number of other well-known names in music have been signed up.

The four-day event, which takes place in Belfast in June, will include numerous masterclasses, industry talks, an outdoor concert and a family fun day.

The masterclasses will give young people the chance to learn essential skills in areas such as song-writing, guitar playing, drums and Djing.

At the end of each masterclass, the tutors, along with Chris Cowey of Top of the Pops and most recently Soapstar Superstar, will choose the most promising students in each class. The selected musicians will go on to rehearse with Chris and open the Cinemagic concert at Custom House Square on Saturday. June 24.

Also playing that day will be indie band Starsailor, whose lead singer James Walsh lives in Belfast and funk outfit Players.

Joan Burney, of Cinemagic, said: "Cinemagic feels that the natural progression of the film festival is a music festival which can offer young people the opportunity to learn from industry professionals."

      Noel's thoughts on Radiohead

The guitarist has conceded the albums released by the Oxford band, fronted by Thom Yorke, have surpassed anything his group have released. Noel also believes Coldplay could yet match the achievements of him and brother Liam.

He said: "I think I could have said, without any argument, till the year 2000 Oasis were the most important British band since The Beatles. But I think Radiohead have been important and I think Coldplay may yet turn out to be important but not so much now."

The acclaimed songwriter, and self-confessed Beatles obsessive, insists the best band since the Fab Four are legendary punk group the Sex Pistols.

He added to Britains Maxim magazine: "The most important band since The Beatles, really, was the Sex Pistols. Oasis are the most important band since the Pistols!"

      Gallagher unfazed by media intrusion

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER insists the band's achievements will outlast their status as British tabloid fodder.

The WONDERWALL rocker is unfazed by constant media speculation over his and brother LIAM's private lives and insists music
    is their legacy.

He says, "You can find an annoying aspect of it, but in the end - 50 years after Oasis split up or when I'm dead - you wont go into a record shop and ask for the press clippings. You'll go out and get the albums. And with those albums there will be nothing attached except for the lyrics.

"For this generation it's probably, 'Oh those boys are always fighting,' and I'm sure the same thing surrounded THE BEATLES - but I'm from a different generation, so I don't know the things that went on at the time. I look at their music for what it is.

"I can honestly say I can look back at my music and say it's looking good, man. After 10 years, it still sounds great."

      Cigarettes, alcohol - and art?

A "ONE-OFF" drawing by Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is being put up for sale to raise money for charity.

The untitled abstract drawing was done by the Burnage-born bad boy of rock shortly after the release of their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994.

The A3-sized drawing is done in white chalk on a black card background and was created three days before the band went on their first tour of America.

It is being put up for sale by Manchester businessman Paul Ashbee - the man who used to employ Liam as a car-valeter and introduced the singer to guitarist Bonehead, thus kick-starting the band which eventually became Oasis.

Paul wants all the proceeds from the sale of the drawing to go to the Alzheimer's Society.

He tells me: "Me and Liam go back a long way. When he used to work for me we used to clean Eric Cantona's car regularly. He did the drawing in my kitchen.

    Definitely Maybe

"We'd been out for the night celebrating the release of Definitely Maybe. Liam disappeared while we were having a drink and I found him doing this drawing in the kitchen.

"It's a one-off, unique as far as I am aware, and I'm sure someone must be interested in buying it as a collector's item."

The drawing has been in Paul's possession since that day in 1994 when Liam - better known for his arrogant rock-star persona - revealed he also has a sensitive side.

The abstract - "He described it as Andy Warhol style," says Paul - features a web-like design with two falling apple-like symbols and random music notes.

Paul adds: "I have no idea what Liam was thinking or what these symbols represent. But it does bear the initials 'LG' - even though they are hard to make out."

Paul wants the cash from the sale to go to Alzheimer's because his grandma died as a result of the disease two years ago.

Anyone wishing to make an offer on the drawing should contact Vicky Leonard on 0800 294 0210

      Liam's six pack

WHEN LIAM GALLAGHER asks for a six pack it normally involves money in exchange for lager.

But I can tell you the OASIS frontman is now enjoying the services of a personal trainer to help him achieve a washboard stomach.

Over the last couple of years Liam has piled on a few pounds because of his passion for Red Stripe and bacon rolls.

But his long-term partner NICOLE APPLETON is a fitness fanatic and has encouraged him to get back in shape.

A pal said: Liam has been quite self-conscious recently about his belly.

He has some gym equipment in his house and he and Nicole have been working hard with a personal trainer.

Liam is really self-motivated about his fitness and wants to keep up with Nicole.

I told you in February that Liams neighbours were getting the hump about the noise he made thundering along on his treadmill.

They should steel themselves the singer arrived back in London yesterday after being off touring for several months.

And by the looks of my pic of his homecoming from Mexico he has shed at least one double chin.

I wonder if it was down to exercise or a dodgy burrito?

      Rock n Roll Rivalries

With the drive to ship units and sell tickets so strong among ego-stroked rock stars, there is a rich tradition of rivalry in the business -- even within bands.

Rock as we know it truly started in the '60s, when a generation of young fans bought records and attended concerts in overwhelming numbers. But the era of peace and love gave birth to a demented rock child. By the end of the '60s, members of CSNY were strung out on heroin and packing guns. The Beatles broke up, bitterly. And Pink Floyd became businessmen. The industry has continued in that fashion.

Behind the hits of the '70s, '80s and '90s are stories of ambition, betrayal and conquest. Settle in as we chronicle the winners and losers in the roll call of rock 'n' roll rivalry. Ring the bell!

    Number 10

    Oasis vs. ex-drummer Tony McCarroll

People get kicked out of bands all the time. Except this time, McCarroll got kicked out of the one band that was about to become the biggest in the world. Before America could say "What's the Story Morning Glory?" Tony was on the phone to his lawyer.

Oasis' elder brother/songwriter Noel was named in a $30 million lawsuit. Tony claimed he was owed royalties and eventually settled out of court for approximately $1 million. He still, however, had to pay over $400,000 in legal fees, and it is said that the agreement essentially cut him out of any future revenue generated by the band.

Note McCarroll being buried alive in the band's "Live Forever" video. Noel apparently also had a habit of conveniently forgetting Tony's name during interviews.

The winner is: Sniping from the far corners of the Monobrow Empire kept Oasis in the news and, by extension, kept Noel Gallagher a very rich man. Gallagher easily beats out that guy he kicked out of his band.....

      Looking forward to going home

Noel and Liam at the airport in Mexico City.

As the DBTT tour came to an end in Mexico city last week The Chief had some final thoughts on this highly successful year as he sat down with Mexican radio station Reactor 105 for a quick chat.

Noel was looking forward to going home , resting and writing a few new tunes. Watching England win the World cup and Manchester city getting some wins were also in his schedule he added with a laugh.

Gallagher added that Oasis would probably put some more work into The Boy with the Blues. An EP release of the track recently got ditched so the track will most likely be included on their next album instead. The permanent drummer position was officially offered to Zak Starkey but Noel told Reactor 105 that he did not want to put Zak on the spot with having to make a decision before his engagement touring with The Who was over with.

      Madonna's unoriginal says Noel

OASIS hardman NOEL GALLAGHER has slammed MADONNA's new album CONFESSIONS ON A DANCEFLOOR as outdated and unoriginal. The WONDERWALL hitmaker insists it's time for the queen of pop to quit the charts because her latest musical offerings, including hit song HUNG UP, sound 20 years out-of-date. He says, "She ran of out ideas some time back. It's all so 80s now."
