Oasis' Guigsy Spots Supersonic Teenage Guitarist

A TEENAGE guitarist from Morecambe is 'Supersonic', says a former member of rock group Oasis.

Harrison Wood recently caught the eye of Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan who played bass with the Manchester superstars during their peak years in the 90s.

McGuigan saw Harrison who plays both bass guitar and double bass (yes, he has more than one string to his bow!) performing in Scotland alongside up-and-coming young violinist and songstress Joni Fuller at the Montrose Music Festival.

Afterwards, he said: "(Joni) has a great young bass player with her...who was far better than me at that age (better than me now actually)." And then, on what he called "the proudest day of my musical life", Harrison went on to win the Royal Northern College of Music (RCNM)'s highly prestigious Junior RNCM award, The Director's Prize for 2009.

"It was all very emotional and the award means the world to me," said Harrison.

At the same awards ceremony, he was also awarded this year's Yorke Trust Prize For Double Bass.

Harrison, who is clearly destined for great things, has also been awarded a scholarship to study double bass at the RNCM from September 2009 and has played with the Halle Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

The versatile young musician is the son of David Wood, owner of Promenade Music in Morecambe and the Faith and Hope record label that took Mint Royale to number one in 2008 with the 'Singin' in the Rain' remix.
